Guest Professor at the Lusíada University (2017-2019).

Scientific Advisor at the Bissau School of Law (2019-2022), where he coordinated several legislative reforms (namely, the Civil Code, the Civil Procedure Code and judiciary legal framework) in cooperation with the UNDP and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.


Legal advisor with a particular focus on Maritime Law, Transport Law, Corporate Law, Banking Law and commercial contracts. Hugo has carried out his professional activity as an advisor to public and private entities in Portugal, Angola and Guinea-Bissau, drafting legal opinions, as well as accompanying several high profile judicial and arbitration proceedings as a legal expert.

With 20 years of practice, Hugo combines his practical knowledge in various fields (he was a lawyer in M&A, commercial contracts and project finance, as well as case handler at the Portuguese Competition Authority (financial sector), Legal Manager of the largest Portuguese property manager and Senior Legal Counsel of a tier 1 credit institution in Portugal) with sound legal knowledge, duly documented in several published works in the fields of Civil Law, Aviation Law, Maritime Law, Commercial and Corporate Law. Frequent advisor in cross-border operations (namely in Angola) and in several judicial and arbitration proceedings (Portugal, Angola and Guinea-Bissau).

Regular speaker at conferences and postgraduate courses in his fields of specialty. Researcher and member of theLisbon Centre for Research in Private Law, Hugo co-coordinated the III and IV Postgraduate Courses in Aviation Law and participated in several projects of said Centre, namely in Banking Law, Commercial Law, Transport Law, Consumer Law and Insurance Law.
